Keywords to an Article, Blog, or Web Page

An key component of search engine optimization is the utilization of keywords in your article, blog, or web page. When people use the internet to search for products and information, they almost always use keywords to conduct the search. In order to increase the likelihood of people being directed to your content, you need to create a connection between the keywords they are using in their searches and your website. Here is how to do this.

Instructions

  1. Open the google keyword tool web page.

Go to the google home page and type "keyword" in the search bar. The first website in the search results should be what you are looking for. It is called "google adwords keyword tool."
  2. Enter a topic, title, or phrase that is associated with your article, blog, or web page.

You'll need to prove you are a human by entering some funny characters. Once you hit "Search" you will be presented with a list of keywords that are related to whatever you typed in the search bar. You will also see a bunch of data associate with each keyword.
  3. Pay attention to the important data.

Use the drop down window on the upper right side of the chart to choose the option to display "average CPC." This is the average cost per click that advertisers will pay when an ad is clicked that is posted around that particular key word. You want this to be a high dollar amount. The higher the better. You also want to find a keyword with high advertiser competition. This will ensure that you will have relevant, high-quality ads displayed on your web page. The last crucial bit of information you want to look for is the average (or global) monthly search volume. This is the average number of times the keyword is searched for on google. Obviously, the higher the better here as well.
  4. Conduct a google search for the keyword you want to use.

Once you select a good potential keyword, open a new browser tab or window and conduct a google search for the keyword. Put quotes around the keywords if it is more than one word. When the results page comes up, look in the upper right hand corner to see the total number of results. You want this number to be low, because if it is high, you'll have more competition from other websites trying to attract people who are searching for those same keywords. Find keywords with the best combination of high average CPC, high monthly global search volume, high advertiser competition, and low results competition. The best combination to use is debatable, so try a few different strategies and see what yields the best results for you.
  5. Work the keywords into your content.

Use the keyword or keyword phrase in the title of your page, article, or blog, in the name of your website if possible, and throughout your content. You can use the keywords in captions to your photos as well, and you can even re-name the photo files to incorporate your keywords. Your visitors will not see the names of the photo files you upload, but the google spider WILL see them. Take advantage of this secret to work more keywords into your content without annoying your readers. Most people say that 3% of the total content should be keyword-related. This however, is debatable as well. Google, and other search engines, are trying constantly to invent technology that can detect high-quality and relevant content for its customers. Just make sure your website is high-quality with good content for your target audience, and the search engines WILL find you. You'll still need to do some work and promotion, but if you become obsessed with trying to cheat the system with shortcuts, you will likely not succeed in the long run. You have it all backwards if you are doing that.
